Hypnosis

The state of being in hypnosis, or trance, is where we allow ourselves to be gently relaxed by the therapist while our mind remains alert and focused. In this relaxed state the functions of the left side of our brain where our logical thoughts occur are are bypassed and we form a bridge through to our more creative unconscious mind.

This bridge is used to facilitate beneficial changes in unwanted behaviour and thoughts by means of appropriate ideas and suggestions made during the therapy sessions. The hypnotic process is also useful in recovering information from the past which may aid you to change current limiting beliefs and behaviours.

NLP

NLP or to give it’s full name - Neuro Linguistic Programming - is a system of effecting changes and works in harmony with the practice of Clinical Hypnotherapy.

Applied widely in business it can also used be for personal change. As a qualified NLP practitioner I use it’s strategies to challenge and broaden the choices available to you. NLP processess can effect profound changes in behaviour, swiftly and easily, allowing clients to be more flexible both in their concious and unconcious mind.

Everyday Trance Experience

Everyone who is a driver has already had the experience of the trance state. As an example, perhaps you have undertaken a journey many times and you will have arrived at your destination with no recall of having navigated the way. Instead, during the journey, you will have perhaps enjoyed a pleasant daydream. One part of your consciousness has safely guided you while another part has been otherwise engaged.

Other times when you will have experienced the trance state will be when you have been watching television, for instance and have not heard when someone speaks to you. It is useful to see the therapist as a guide who safely facilitates an experience that you have actually had many times before. Most people find that the trance state allows for blissful relaxation.

In my therapeutic practice I integrate elements of hypnosis and NLP as appropriate.

Self Hypnosis

Some may say that all hypnosis is self hypnosis and by learning self hypnosis you can greatly assist your progress in attaining your goal. Once learned the technique can be utilised in your own time to reinforce the suggestions and ideas put forward in the therapy session. It can also allow you to formulate your own positive suggestions for transforming your life for the better.
